Chilkat Mountains, Alaska
This incredible large scale panoramic image of the Chilkat mountains inspires mountaineers and skiers alike. Taken in the spring of 2024 on a project with Matchstick Productions filming the ski film “Calm Beneath Castles”. There are 4 athletes skiing the spine wall to the left of the jagged fang peak just left of center. Working with top notch athletes that included Colby Stevenson, Karl Fostvedt, Finn Bilous and Emily Childs. Taken after 3 days of filming and working up to this incredibly high consequence line the athletes felt confident and tackled this monster of a line head on. The last time this line was skied (2013)a skier passed away due to a cornice fall where 4 skiers tumbled down the face - RIP. The line was then named the Konop-inator after one of the survivors. This day was a wonderful redemption of this line in this majestic setting where the snow seems to stick to the vertical walls of the Kicking Horse mountain feature. The true definition of gnarly terrain as so much goes into being able to ski and navigate this terrain from cornices, spines, bergschrunds and avalanches. Composed of about 125 images to make this massive image meant for full wall art installations to bring you literally into the mountains to experience this scene in person. Enjoy!
